Universal Standard in Dallas October 18-21

Universal Standard, a size-inclusive brand of fashion-forward, high-quality clothing for women sizes 10-28, will be stopping in Dallas, October 18-21, as part of a two-month, 12-city tour. The Dallas visit will feature an independent trunk show, a model search in partnership with Lions Model Management, pop-up in collaboration with Nordstrom, and the opportunity to meet co-founders Polina Veksler and Alexandra Waldman for personal fittings, style tips, and insight into the brand aesthetic and philosophy.

The Trunk Show and Nordstrom Pop-Up offers women to see and experience the full collection in person. Exclusive items that are not available to purchase at www.universalstandard.com will be onsite to preview and pre-order. Shoppers can walk out hands free – all items will be delivered directly to the customer. The co-founders will also be in attendance for styling sessions, Q&A’s, and style tips. Plus, there will be a chance to win the new Fall Starter Kit.

The Model Search, in collaboration with New York’s prestigious The Lions modeling agency, will be conducted in each of the twelve cities through open casting call auditions for plus-size models. Looking for new faces and challenging traditional beauty standards, Universal Standard will be searching for women size 10 – 28 for their own future campaign. The chosen candidates will also be flown to New York City to meet with The Lions agency’s top modeling agents. The Lions is built on a non-traditional business model that looks beyond measurements to find clients who have unique qualities and work to develop their profiles. The boutique agency’s clients include Irina Shayk, Kate Upton, Cameron Russell, Stella Maxwell, and Karen Elson.

Fast Company claims that Universal Standard “may have just solved the biggest problem in plus-size fashion.” It has set out to change forever the way women above a certain size are seen – and the way they see themselves by changing the landscape of the plus-size market – a space currently dominating fashion, apparel, and industry news. For instance, Universal Standard is pioneering a program termed “Universal Fit Liberty” that provides size exchanges of items from the brand’s core collection for free within a year of purchase to accommodate women’s never-ending battle with fluctuating weight. The returned items are laundered and donated to charity. Because of this philosophy and the brand’s beautiful designs, Universal Standard has beenfeatured in everything from Vogue, Forbes, WWD, BoF, InStyle, Glamour, and hundreds of other publications.

Saturday,  September  23rd     • Renny  Vasquez’s  “Making  It  In  Makeup,”  10:30  -­‐  12  PM:    From  working  with  celebrities  such  as  Jennifer  Lopez,  La  La  Anthony,  and  Serena   Williams,  Renny  Vasquez  has  made  a  name  for  himself.  By  using  social  media  and  attending  artist  events,  Renny  spreads  his  beauty   message  showing  off  his  impressive  work  ethic.  In  his  third  keynote  for  The  Makeup  Show,  Renny  speaks  about  his  own  journey,  shares  his   ideas  on  the  things  you  can  do  to  put  your  own  career  on  the  fast  track  and  shows  you  an  example  of  the  beautiful  makeup  for  which  he   has  become  known.

• Sam  Fine’s  “The  Basics  of  Beauty,” 12:30-­‐2  PM:  As  one  of  the  world’s  leading  makeup  artists,  Sam  Fine  has  become  the  man  to  call  when   it  comes  to  beautifying  women  of  color.  Using  his  skills,  Sam  has  worked  on  Kerry  Washington,  Jennifer  Hudson,  Naomi  Campbell,  and   more.  Aside  from  his  work  appearing  on  various  magazine  covers,  he  released  a  top  selling  book  called  Fine  Beauty:  Beauty  Basics  and   Beyond  for  African-­‐American  Women.  Soon  after,  the  instructional  DVD,  Fine:  The  Basics  of  Beauty  was  released.  In  this  Keynote,  you  will   experience  firsthand  the  artistry  that  separates  him  from  others  in  the  industry  and  establishes  him  as  an  expert  and  innovator  in  our  field.   You  will  gain  advice  to  further  your  own  artistry  and  success  in  our  industry.  You  will  learn  the  secrets  to  creating  unforgettable  makeup   applications  and  design  for  the  specific  needs  of  women  of  color.

• Kevin  James  Bennett’s  “Makeup  Kit  Breakdown,” 10:30-­‐12  PM:  Stressed  about  building  your  own  makeup  kit?  Kevin  James  Bennett  is   here  to  help  you.  Breaking  down  the  ingredients  in  products  and  what  makes  the  perfect  addition  to  your  professional  makeup  kit,  he  will   help  you  separate  needs  versus  wants  in  the  ever  growing  market  and  will  offer  insight  on  what  the  must-­‐haves  every  makeup  pro  needs.

Journey into the Field of Dreams at the 2017 Equest Gala, an evening of enchantment, where hope is limitless and dreams can come true. On April 29, Equest will transform the Texas Horse Park into an elegant soiree where supporters, clients, and therapy horses unite to celebrate the achievements of Equest’s 35-year history and to raise money so that Equest can continue its mission to improve lives through the human-horse connection for years to come.

The sumptuous southern chic fundraiser, led by Honorary Co-Chairs Lynn and Allan McBee and Co-Chairs Kathy and Jeromy Fielder, will include gourmet southern cuisine, craft cocktails, live music, and much-desired live and silent auction items.

The night will begin when luxury shuttles stocked with beer and wine bring guests from two locations in the Park Cities and Preston Hollow to Texas Horse Park, 304 acres of whispering windswept prairie grass and the grandeur of century-old “trophy trees” under a vast starlit sky.  It is no wonder the 2017 Equest Gala is themed Field of Dreams.

Upon arrival at Equest at Texas Horse Park, guests will be greeted by the beloved Equest Mini Ambassadors on the red carpet for a paparazzi moment before enjoying a delightful reception of gourmet bites and craft cocktails. Special exhibitions will showcase the exemplary Equest programs and activities, and guests can tour the immaculate stalls and visit the horses to create their own human-horse connection.

A covered barn will be embellished with ferns and moss, magnolias and green apples, and softly lit candles, creating a dreamlike atmosphere to set the stage for an evening of fantasy including a sit-down gourmet dinner, a powerful presentation by Equest, suspenseful live and silent auction, high-energy entertainment, and much dancing.

Recognized as community leaders and philanthropists, the McBees volunteer countless hours of energy, leadership, and time to ensure that Dallas is a world-class city and that the underserved are provided the resources and tools to excel and continue their altruistic mantra. Lynn, a seventh-generation Texan, is CEO of Young Women’s Preparatory Network and serves on over 20 non-profit boards including Bridge Homeless Shelter, Visiting Nurse Association, The Arts Community Alliance (TACA), The Family Place Foundation, AT&T Performing Arts Center, among others, and is a member of numerous organizations. Allan is vice president at McBee Operating Co. and is often seen by Lynn’s side at numerous charitable events.

Kathy is a rising star as a lifestyle expert, an accomplished designer, an entrepreneur of luxurious bedding ensembles sold globally, a television personality on the popular show Designing Texas with Jocelyn White, and a ribbon-winning equestrian with an unbridled passion for horses. In addition to serving as Director of Development on the Board of Equest, Kathy also supports several charities including St. Jude, SPCA, Art for the Heart, and Ahadi Collective. Jeromy is senior vice president of a construction consulting firm who lends deep knowledge and experience. They are proud parents of two children, Isabella and Harrison.

Founded in 1981, Equest provides equine facilitated activities, therapies and counseling to children and adults with physical, cognitive, sensory, coping and learning disabilities and veterans with adjustment challenges.
