End of Summer: A Holiday Weekend in SD

What’s not to love about long holiday weekends?…A few extra days off and more time to play! This weekend I headed out to San Diego-beautiful weather, beautiful scenery and definitely no shortage of things to do!

With a long flight delay upon arrival, a glass of wine at the Brig” was in order, as the Roth Pinot Noir is a must have! Up bright and early for a full day of activities-stopping by Solana Beach Coffee Company-a very popular morning jaunt for chai tea lattes and healthy breakfast tacos, bagels, and oatmeal, yum! Then it was off to Carlsbad’s La Costa Resort for a morning workout at their state of the art gym, a citrus pedicure at the salon, a hydrating facial at the spa, tennis, pool time (The Edge, Adult Only Pool), watersliding (Splash Landing), cocktails (Diversions Lounge) and dinner (Legends Bistro)! This is the place to be for a weekend retreat!

Within the area-Cardiff by the Sea houses a popular local hotspot-The Beach House, perfect for a patio cocktail while admiring the beautiful sunset, along with Del Mar’s En Fuego Cantina , for a strong margarita and delicious Mexican/Baja cuisine!

“Where the Turf meets the Surf.” Del Mar Racetrack, where the avid horse racing fans congregate, we were able to catch the last “official” races of summer betting on a few picked favorites. With a little guidance, we evened out our wins and losses with minus two bucks for the day!

You know the saying-“all talk and no action,” well after saying I’ve wanted to try surfing, I finally did it!  I had the lovely pleasure of meeting and learning from the best- Matt Allen (semi-pro surfer) of Maui Surf Academy. After a thorough beach instruction, I hit the waves coming! Surfing near the reef at Swamis Beach, I only had a few minor spills along with a couple near perfect rides, all thanks to Matt and his guidance! This Gidget will definitely be hitting the waves again!

If nearby, grab a smoothie at Swami’s Cafe or a quick bite at Cardiff Seaside Market. Feeling extra hungry after a long day of surfingindulge in a delicious veggie burger and sweet potato fries at Habit Burger. Not your typical fast food joint, I’ll definitely be trying again!

Of course no trip is complete without a little shopping- the Carlsbad Premium Outlets  are good for great sales and discounted prices on some of your favorite staples-Banana Republic, AT Loft, BCBG, Nine West and Ferragamo. Located in proximity to Cardiff Seaside Market,  I stumbled upon two delightful sister boutiques-Azzaria Boutique and Azzaria Denim Bar. Affordable fresh, chic California cool clothing, denim and accessories from Los Angeles native and top stylist Tammy Neihart.
